Registration/Check-in:
- Teacher Training:
Register at the Student Union Building (SUB), upstairs. You will be informed by e-mail about the exact registration time/day and the time/day of the first class meeting for your particular course. At registration, you will receive your schedule and other registration materials. The Opening Ceremony begins at 4:30 pm Sunday, 7/25 in Keller hall in the Fine Arts Building.- Student Institute - Advanced String Camp:
Register at the Student Union Building (SUB), upstairs on Sunday, July 25, 9:30 – 10:15 am. Your first class will begin at 10:30 am.- Student Institute - Intermediate and Pre-Twinkle Camp:
Register at the Student Union Building (SUB), upstairs on Sunday, July 25 from 1:30 – 4:00 pm. Welcoming Ceremony begins at 4:30 pm in Keller Hall in the Fine Arts Building.- For those staying on campus:
If you are staying in the apartments at University of New Mexico, please plan on checking in at the Student Residence Center (see UNM map) before or after you register on Sunday, July 25. If you plan to arrive before Sunday, July 25 and/or stay beyond Friday, July 30, please contact the Institute Director for special instructions and arrangements.What to Bring:
New Mexico has a very temperate climate. Be prepared for warm days and cool evenings. At 6,500 feet above sea level, it is also important to drink lots of water.
Concert dress for performances:
White blouses or shirts, dark skirts or trousers, dress shoes
Bring to class each day:
- Your instrument
- Notebook, pen, pencil
- Any music required for your class
- Music stand for orchestra and/or chamber music (if applicable)
Please put your name on all belongings you bring to the Institute!Opening Ceremony:
On July 25th following check-in and registration we will hold our Welcoming Ceremony in Keller Hall in the Fine Arts Center. We will introduce the faculty and make important announcements, so all Institute participants and their parents should plan to attend. Following this ceremony, everyone will participate in our traditional Play-Ins, with violins in Keller, and cellos and violas in B120 in the Music Building.
Cookout on the Quad:
We are planning on having a wonderful cookout following the Play-In on Sunday at 6:00 pm for all those who ordered the full meal plan or bought Cookout tickets. It should be fun!
Orientation for Parents:
Parents of first time Institute students may attend a special orientation on Sunday, July 25 at 7:00 pm following the Cookout. Location will be announced at the Welcoming Ceremony.
Family Fun on Opening Night:
This is a wonderful opportunity for participants to get to know one another before classes begin on Monday. Jamie O’Hara, The Magic Guy, will perform and everyone will experience a few surprises while getting acquainted.
Monday Night Guest Performance:
This year we are delighted to present La Catrina Quartet, the string quartet-in-residence from New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, New Mexico! We hope you all will make plans to attend on Monday, July 26 in Keller Hall!
Solo Honors Performances:
Those who submitted videos and applications for our Honors Recitals will be notified of their performance status by July 1, 2010. Those selected to perform will be expected to attend a scheduled rehearsal, and you will get a notice about this in your registration packet. (Reminder: If you plan to audition for Honors Recital selection, videos and applications must be postmarked by May 31, 2010.)
Chamber Music:
If you are in the Advanced String Camp, your Chamber Music and orchestra parts will be sent to you by July 1, 2010. Please be thoroughly familiar with this music by the time you arrive at the Institute. If necessary, have your private teacher work with you on this music.
